Case Study - Restec Liquid Roofing System Installation in Orpington
Location: Elm Grove, Orpington BR6 0AB
Project Overview
PSE Roofing were appointed to install a new Restec cold-applied liquid roofing system to a flat roof requiring a high-performance, seamless waterproofing solution. The project involved preparing the roof deck, installing all perimeter trims, and applying a fully reinforced multi-layer liquid roofing system in accordance with the manufacturer's installation specifications.
The completed installation provides a durable, low-maintenance waterproof membrane designed to deliver long-term protection against the elements.
Scope of Works
Erection of safe access equipment where required. Installation of new 18mm OSB roof decking. Cleaning of all board edges using acetone to ensure optimum adhesion. Application of primer to all board edges. Installation of all required perimeter and edge trims. Priming of the remaining roof surface in preparation for the waterproofing system. Taping of all board joints to reinforce movement areas. Application of the ResTec liquid base coat across the roof. Rolling of the entire roof surface to remove trapped air and ensure full adhesion.
Application of the ResTec top coat in two layers to achieve the specified waterproof finish. Final inspection and completion of all finishing details.
Challenges
Achieving maximum adhesion between the roof deck and liquid roofing system. Ensuring all joints and detailing were correctly reinforced prior to waterproofing. Eliminating trapped air within the liquid system to maintain a seamless finish. Delivering a consistent coating thickness across the entire roof surface. Completing all edge details and trims to provide a robust, watertight termination.
Solution
New 18mm OSB roof decking was installed to create a stable substrate for the waterproofing system. All board edges were thoroughly cleaned using acetone before primer was applied to maximise adhesion. Perimeter trims and edge details were then installed to provide secure terminations around the roof. The remaining roof surface was primed, and all board joints were reinforced using joint tape to accommodate movement and strengthen critical areas.
A ResTec liquid base coat was applied across the roof before the surface was rolled to remove trapped air and ensure complete bonding of the system. Once the base coat had fully cured, two further coats of the ResTec top coat were applied, creating a seamless, fully bonded waterproof membrane with excellent durability and long-term weather resistance.
Outcome
The completed installation provides a professional finish, ensuring the roof is fully protected against water ingress while meeting the manufacturer's recommended installation standards.
